Of course, a smattering of Russian knowledge would have helped - and I did buy myself the corresponding Rosetta Stone starter set the day after - but the enchanting, dream-like and often silent performance can easily hold audiences enthralled during the 3 hours and a bit it takes to unfold its magic.
Mesmerizing ballets and music (by Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich, along with original score by Faustas Latenas, as well as Russian and French folk songs). Tragedy, comedy. One spurious white rabbit. One young man in tights!
