On October 16, 1943, more than 1,000 Roman Jews were seized and deported to the concentration camp at Auschwitz, where they arrived 6 days later. Only 16 people survived.

Virginia didn't make it.

Such memorials, in the form of metal cobblestones are embedded in the pavement all over Rome, usually in the front of the former lodgings of the victims. Virginia is the youngest victim I have found.
