So I spent most of last week in Freiburg im Breisgau and, while the city is thoroughly charming and the weather excellent, due to a heavy workload I did not have so much time to walk around and visit.
I mean: 149 pictures! How paltry is this for four days?

I did take advantage of my insomnia to walk about at ungodly hours, only to discover that the locals weren't big on night time lighting. Probably not environmental friendly enough, and Freiburg has been big on environment issues for ages.
Back when I visited the place with my German class (somewhere around 1980) the centre was already mostly pedestrian, they had recycled paper, something that was largely unheard of in France at that time (I remember getting a bunch of this only to realize that it did not take to ink very much. Or perhaps it did take to it rather too much), solar panels on houses, etc.

But inspite or because of this, it's a nice place to walk about, provided you are careful not to step into those mini canals they have flowing everywhere in the streets.

This means that I had to look at where I was putting my feet a lot more than I usually do.
So I noticed the nice manhole covers they have there:

And then I noticed that some shops had their wares described in stone work on the pavement.
Like this, for a bakerei (How do I love pretzels! I ate tons of nice bread while I was there.):

Charming custom, isn't it?

However, I could not help wondering what THAT shop sold... )
