Puzzling things in Freiburg - Part three

Now I have mentioned that Freiburg has those little rivulets running in the street, sorts of mini canals.
Let's have a look:


Yup, that's one on the right side of that street...

Behind the university there was even a mini cascade!



The university had it's own moat (no picture).

And yes, there is another one of those rivulets on the right hand side of that cute little street too:



Now they vary in size and at one point in the city, they even form an island, the main body of water being as large as a meter wide.
The depth is however never more than 30 centimeters, it seems.





Somebody at the Rathaus must have had some Peter Pan complex...
